I am a childrens photographer, stylist & makeup artist, i do it all, and at the end of the day organise it into a fab little magazine.
I decided to begin BCK because at the time (i was 14) i was fascinated by children photographers & stylish kids magazines, fab LA photographers such as Alex Kruk & Shannon Sewell caught my eye and made me think- i want to do that!
After a while big city kids became a magazine for everyone! For photographers, bloggers, designers & makeup artists as well as for the kids, everything the industry involves can be found on the pages.
It’s actually not difficult at all. I am so used to the many hats that i wear, i go back and fourth between styling, photographing & doing the makeup with every shoot i have, for the most part its second nature and easy to balance however on larger shoots involving more than 2 children i normally leave the hair & makeup to another source.
It’s very easy for me to find help as help is all around me, whether it be through the parents of the children i work with or through a professional whom i have hired, we always get the job done in the end.
My favourite part of this journey is the places it takes me.
So far my work has taken me to to Brighton, Portsmouth, Bognor Regis, Scotland, Wales, Kent, and most recently- Italy!
Behind the scenes of my shoots usually consists of wild wardrobe changes in any discrete location we can possibly find ( as all of my work is outdoors and shoot in specific scenery around London, sometimes we have to get the kids changed in the oddest places but- have to do what we have to do!)
But it’s not all work, the kids keep themselves busy whilst waiting for their turn to get ready usually by colouring together or playing on location, its always sweet to watch their bonds grow.
I usually fine my brands through the power of Instagram, but for the most part i have been blessed enough to have brands reach out to me.
Relief! For the first time i can breathe again, for another week at least then its back to working on the next project.
I have BIG plans for this summer.
For the most part after my trip to italy, i have been taking a break to focus on college and remember that i am still a teenager and have to enjoy life outside of work, but i find myself itching to get back to work lately which is why i cannot wait to have that extra bit of time to plan some shoots i have always wanted to bring to life, and do my favourite thing in the world- travel!
In 5 years i would like i have my own home studio & office working full time in my magazine & photoshoots while taking the occasional trip across country for new scenery to inspire me.
Keep doing exactly what you are doing now, it will all make sense one day and all be worth it.
